Opening statements

Rose Anne Robertson opened by saying that it was co-hosted by WAMU, a radio station. She then introduced one of the panelists, Rick Rockwell, for his work at American University.

Rick Rockwell, one of the panelists, has taught "Media Power in Latin America" this semester at American University and has started a project involving studying network news from all over the world, Robertson said.

Ms. Munson then spoke about poverty in the U.S., especially the Latino population (though she said she didn't agree with giving them that terminology). She said it's a radio show and so walked us through the procedure of clapping and such to give the impression that we were in a studio and to be extremely quiet during the program.
